2020 Vision

2020 Vision

As I put the glasses on
The ones I thought I’d use
To see my life more clearly
With a 20/20 view
It started out with promise
But rapidly it blurred
The things I thought would never come
Started to occur

Pandemic here, an earthquake there,
Throw in the high windstorms
Social distance and wearing masks
Soon became the norm
Missionaries coming home
Home church, and temples close
Panic shopping, empty shelves
Get worse? I didn’t think so

But then it did; there’s riots now
And fighting in the streets
The temperature in politics
Was turning up the heat
Have I forgotten anything?
I feel there’s so much more
There’s sadness, anger, loss of life
And rumors of a war

Where is the peace I’m looking for,
The safety I’d like to feel?
I’m grateful for such things as Zoom
To keep life “virtually” real
The sight I hoped that I would find
When I started out this year
Was shown in unexpected ways
The message now is clear

There are things that I can live without
There are ways we can adjust
I know through Heaven’s promises
In our Savior we can trust!
They say hindsight is 20/20
Looking back, what can we see?
What glasses do I choose to wear?
What feels right to me?

Do I have my blinders on?
Or wear my rose-colored pair?
Or do I wear sunglasses
To block the Light that’s everywhere?
Should reading glasses be my choice
To learn what I should know?
Are corrective lenses what I need
To change me as I go?

Looking back or looking forward,
Or in my present state
I pray that I’ll have vision
To help me see things straight
Jesus healed the blind man
I know He’ll heal us too
And make each year have purpose
Until our work is through.
