A Mother

A Mother

As a mother holds her baby
How can she ever know
The worries, joys and laughter
She’ll feel as her baby grows.

She might think that once her child
Is grown and leaves her roof
That now her worry is over.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

A mother is always needed,
Although her role will change.
She feels gladness when there’s joy
And sorrow when there’s pain.

Her love and support are eternal.
Her heartfelt prayers, sincere.
She wishes she could fix things
And wipe away the tears.

Her example can’t be measured.
Her family will always know
The things that she believed in,
The things that helped her to grow.

I know I can never repay you
For the love that you have shown,
For the sacrifice of time and means,
I couldn’t make it through life alone.

So thank you for being my mother!
I hope that I can be
At least half the mother to my kids
That you have been to me.
