Let The Carpenter In
Let The Carpenter In
After forty six years of life in one house
The time finally came for a change.
They found memories were scattered along with their things.
Most were happy, but some filled with pain.
All the tangible things were packed safely away
But the memories were happily shared
By the family whose lives were wrapped up in this place
And who still feel a love that is rare.
As they gathered one day with sledge hammers and all
For a job that they wanted to do,
All the youth ran at once to kick down a wall
While Uncle Jerry got a nail through his shoe.
At the end of the day they’d made a good dent
When the dumpster outside had been filled.
Their bodies were sore but they knew what it meant
To tear down the walls to rebuild.
Tear down the walls
Let the carpenter in
He’ll build the house where His spirit can dwell
If we’ll just let the carpenter in.
We all need to take stock of our lives now and then
To see what changes need to be made.
Are we on the right course? Are we following God’s plan?
Which walls should come out, which should stay?
Sometimes in our lives we feel beaten and crushed
As our walls seem to fall to the ground.
Let the carpenter in, your worries to hush
As He changes your rooms all around.
We get slivers and scrapes and we make our mistakes
As we labor with Him at our side.
He fills in our holes where small nails have made marks
While the prints in His hands he won’t hide.
When the final cleaning is done it is easy to see
The house couldn’t be built all alone
For He’s made it better than it ever could be
When it’s finally time to move home.
Tear down the walls
Let the carpenter in
He’ll build the house where His spirit can dwell
We can’t do it alone
We just need to trust
And just let the carpenter in.
