Mary
Mary
I’ve recently thought about Mary
And what she felt as she gave birth.
Was she calm or was she uncertain
As she brought her sweet baby to earth?
I’ve given birth to five children,
A couple of them at home,
But not in a lonely stable
Nor did I do it alone.
I wasn’t only fourteen years old.
Others were with me who’d done this before.
I’d learned some of the ‘birth basics’
So I knew just what might be in store.
My guess is she didn’t take classes
To help her to be prepared.
I wonder if angels attended
And if God, our Father, was there.
My admiration has grown toward Mary
For I know what she might have gone through.
It’s frightening to bring children into this world.
They bring joy, but uncertainty too.
She knew that she’d need to prepare Him
For the mission only He could fulfill.
No mothers heart could hurt anymore
Than hers did on Golgotha’s Hill.
I thank Mary for birthing the Savior
In a lowly manger stall
And thank her for raising a Son
Who would be the Redeemer of us all.
